The primary
role of
the school
chaplain is that of a ‘faith presence' in the school context.
Chaplains work closely with all members of staff and with the local
parish community. In practice their role includes teaching religious
education, organizing retreats and prayer exercises for students,
meeting students on a individual basis and taking an active part in all
areas of school life. They follow a voluntary code of conduct set down
by the School Chaplains' Association.
The
Association is
privileged to
work closely with many bodies in the field of education. Chief among
these are the Joint Managerial Body in Catholic Schools , Association
of Community and Comprehensive Schools, TUI, ASTI, IVEA, Education
Office of CORI, and the Bishops' Education Committee.
The Yearbook
and
Dairy is a comprehensive reference. Apart from a diary it also contains:
- A list of
members
of the association and their contact details
- Directories
of
organisations
that provide services for young people including support and voluntary
bodies, health boards, religious organisations and retreat centres
- Featured
articles
- that vary from year to year
- Calendar of
events
